Review is a stage, not a side conversation.

NODEN Editorial · 5 min read

A team can finish the task and still wait days for the decision. Making review visible helps everyone understand what is actually moving.

Name the decision you need

A general request for feedback can create a general conversation. A specific review request tells people what to evaluate and what they can leave for later.

Separate a quality check from an approval. The first asks whether the work meets a standard. The second asks whether the team is ready to move forward. They may need different people and different evidence.

Make the reviewer an owner

A task waiting for “the team” can wait indefinitely. Name the person who can give the final answer and make sure they know what the answer should unblock.

Where several perspectives matter, collect them in one place before the final decision. Keep the decision itself easy to find afterward.

Close the loop

When a review is complete, record the outcome and update the next task. If the answer is “not yet,” describe the change that would make it ready.

A useful review leaves the receiver with a next action rather than a fresh pile of opinions. Then review becomes part of the workflow instead of another place where work waits.
